BMW Coolant Temperature Sensor
The BMW Coolant temperature sensor transmits the engine coolant temperature to the temperature gauge located on the panel in front of the driver. It shows the temperature status directly from the engine to the driver.
The engine coolant temperature sensor is a sensor that measures the temperature status of the car engine and provides information to the engine control unit (ECU). The functions of the engine temperature sensor are as follows:
Monitoring Engine Temperature: The engine temperature sensor measures the instantaneous temperature value of the engine and transmits this information to the engine control unit, monitoring the temperature status of the engine. This allows for the detection of engine overheating or excessive cooling.
Adjusting Fuel Injection: A correct fuel-air mixture is necessary for the efficient operation of the engine. The engine temperature sensor helps adjust fuel injection by transmitting the engine's temperature status to the engine control unit. More fuel is injected when the engine is cold to ensure quick heating, while fuel injection is reduced as the engine warms up to optimize fuel economy.
Cooling System Control: The engine temperature sensor controls the components of the cooling system based on the engine's temperature. For example, when the engine temperature rises sufficiently, the sensor allows the thermostat to open and the coolant to circulate into the engine. This prevents the engine from overheating.
Overheating Warning: The engine temperature sensor warns the driver in cases of engine overheating. If the engine temperature sensor detects an excessively high temperature, a warning light or overheating warning on the dashboard is activated through the engine control unit. This ensures that the driver knows to cool the engine or consult a service to resolve the issue if necessary.
The engine temperature sensor optimizes engine performance by ensuring that the engine operates within the correct temperature range and detects potential issues such as overheating. This ensures that the engine operates efficiently and safely.
